Training

Adult Basic Education, work desk
“Volunteering is the giving of time and energy through a third party, which can bring measurable benefits to the volunteer, individual beneficiaries, groups and organisations, communities, environment and society at large.
It is a choice undertaken of one’s own free will, and is not motivated primarily for financial gain or for a wage or salary.”

Scottish Executive 2004

Our service aims to help any person, over the age of 16, who can set goals to improve their literacy and/or numeracy skills. To help us to offer a quality service to our students, we need the skills, time and energy of volunteers.

Volunteers come from all walks of life and bring with them their personal skills and life experience.  One of the main ways in which you can volunteer is to become a volunteer tutor.  You will assist the group tutor to deliver an effective and supportive learning environment for students.
We will give you training, on-going support and offer accreditation as part of our commitment to our volunteers.  In return we ask you to give us your time to attend the training and to come along to a group for two hours, once a week.

If you are interested why not complete the application form and return it to janice.davidson@westlothian.gov.uk.
