Tom Meek Awards

19th July 2010

This year the Tom Meek Award is celebrating its tenth birthday.  Each year the awards night is a celebration of learning and achievement and there was certainly plenty to cram in to this year's event.

Kenneth MacAlpine has become our latest winner of the Tom Meek Award.  Kenneth has had overcome a number of barriers to make progress with his learning.  His experiences have encouraged him to put something back into his community including designing a leaflet to encourage new students to get involved with ABE.  Kenneth was presented with the award by West Lothian Chief Executive, Alex Linkston.  To find out more about the awards and to read the stories of this year's nominees, have a look at the commerative booklet on our publications page.

Other successes were celebrated at the awards ceremony included those learners who had completed the Six Book Challenge and volunteers who had completed aspects of our training programme.  The 'Doing it for Ourselves' group also were presented with certificates after being nominated for the Scottish Adult Learning Partnership group award.
