Spotlight on... Tony

1st April 2010

Tony from the Adult Learning Centre, Wednesday morning group has become our 'Mr April'.  He tells us a bit about his learning experience - from working in the chippy to Cooking by Numbers.

" Hi, my name is Tony and the reason I came to ABE is to improve my reading and vocabulary.  Since coming here I've improved greatly but still get a little confused with punctuation marks and knowing when and where to use them.  In time and with practice, I'll get it.  I've read a few books since joining which is an achievement.  I think the last time was at school and I'm 46 now.  I have also written a short-ish story about my trip to France last year and this is now on the website.  Again, another achievement since I had no clue as to where to start.  Now I have a rough idea how to do it, starting with a spider-gram and then proof reading.

I have also just completed the Cooking by Numbers course which was very interesting and now I can't stop buying cookery books? and I'm not kidding!  Think I've got the bug.  I start a follow up cooking course in May ? I can't wait for that one.

As for in the future, I've not really thought about what I would like to do but hopefully with what I'm learning, I will have more choices and be able to get out of the chip shop where I work.  My aim for coming here was to improve my confidence and communicate better with people."
