Spotlight On......Karen
23rd November 2009
Spotlight On? is a new web feature where each month a different student talks about their experiences at ABE. To start the ball rolling Karen, from the Wednesday morning group at the Adult Learning Centre, tells us what she has been up to.
"I like to do acting - I'm in the Linlithgow players and I've done pantos for goodness knows how many years. I'm one of these people who will never stop doing them!
I came here to do numeracy especially working out change because I was so bad at that. I've got a bit better and it comes in handy in the after-school club where I work. And the same with multiplication, I've now discovered that I can help the children with that as well.
I'm in the book club and we're going on a trip next week to the theatre. Normally we meet once a month and read books and write up what we think about the book. We don't always do the same book as each other. We did the Six Book Challenge where you read six books and you write up what you think about them and then you get a certificate.
I met with a guidance worker recently to talk about doing an HNC in Childcare which is my long-term goal. I've now just started an Open Learning unit in Children with Special Needs as a first step towards this."
