Inked Plus

As part of the Inked project, ABE have secured Live Literature funding through the Scottish Book Trust.  This will fund a series of workshops which look at creative ways of telling stories.  The workshops will run in libraries across West Lothian and be run by guest writers.  We will have inputs both from Metaphrog who are illustrators and graphic novelist and David Bishop, a screenwriter, fantasy writer and graphic novelist.  The sessions promise to be ve… read more

Spotlight On ... Wesley

This month's spotlight is on Wesley who tells us about his experiences of being in a lipreading group.
"Most illnesses or accidents are followed by medical treatment or aftercare such as physiotherapy.  However deafness is different.  Once you have been fitted with hearing aids then there is no further aftercare and this is where lip reading classes become a life-saving therapy.

This month, the spotlight is on Bhola from the Strathbrock group.  She tells us about her latest achievements and what she gets out of coming to ABE.
"I came along to ABE because one of my friends had told me about it and I felt that I needed to come and get some extra help.  I’m currently working on reading books and answering questions and getting to know what the book is about.  I’m enjoying doing it and I’m now thinking about doing an SQA in reading.read more

Better Off

'Better Off' is West Lothian's programme of activities for Money Week 2011. Over 50 activities will be running throughout the week that aim to help show people what they can do to try and improve their finances, so skint people manage to survive better on the money they have, and those surviving can think about planning for the future by starting to save.
